Asia!!! I’m going to Asia!!! Finally this day has come! (almost)
I got a job teaching English for a month in Taiwan this summer! So that’s exciting just by itself. It’s at an english camp for kids. I’m really excited about it… for more reasons than I can count. But I LOVE how the camp is set up. (At least in theory – I realize I’m not actually there yet haha). The kids are given fake american money that they have to use to pay ‘rent’ each week, get their laundry done, buy meals and so on. There’s also a fake bank where they have all different kids of fake currencies from all different countries – so the kids have to learn how to properly use exchange rates. Wow. If they get caught talking in Chinese they can loose money. They also have places like a coffee shop, a restaurant, a clinic, a bowling alley… so they can get english practice in real-life situations. Great! So I’m excited for sure.
Here’s the other exciting part. I’m planning to travel around a bit to other countries before and after I teach! I’m going to see friends in Japan, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Hong Kong! Awesome!
The thing is… I’ve been tentatively planning a trip to Southeast Asia for the past 2 years! And it’s finally happening. Yesterday, I got absolutely NOTHING done because I found my 2 spiral notebooks that I had kept lists of places to stay and things to do when I make it over there. OMG. I forgot how exciting everything is. One of the things I want to do includes going to this National Park in Malaysia that goes deep into the rainforest. There you can walk on the longest suspension bridge through the rainforest, but the best part… wait for it… you can go “visit” this tribe of natives called the Batek that still live off the land and hand make blow dart guns. Obviously they’ve not been left untouched by the tourist industry and dress a little more modernly, but still awesome that they are willing to teach people how to make fires by hand and blow guns!
Anyway, I am currently exploding with excitement and probably won’t be able to get much done the next few days because my head just keeps overflowing with thoughts and plans and ideas and excitement.
And I’m even more excited than all the traveling that I get to see my friends!!!! I’ve been telling my friends in Singapore for the past 2 years that I’d come visit them soon. So, I’m not a liar anymore because I am coming soon! (Crossing fingers that nothing bizarre happens ha).
So, anyway, I thought that maybe if I blogged, and shared my excitement with the 5 of you who read this, it would all get out of mind for at least an hour or 2 so I could get something productive done…
