Breakfast in Japan

So this morning I woke up, after a GREAT night’s sleep. I forgot that I LOVE sleeping on the floor. Weird, I know, but so Asian of me.

I asked Yukiko what she usually eats for breakfast here, and she said, “Mostly just little snack type of things.” So, she hands me an orange, some crackers, and this little heart shaped container of what she calls “Japanese jelly”. I’m excited to eat breakfast, as usual. But as I’m looking at the Japanese jelly… I notice something odd…

Do you notice the pictures of the faces that look like they’re ill? Haha, well, I noticed them too… So, I was like “um, what does it say around these faces?” Yukiko goes, “Oh, well, some old people and children have died from eating it.” Wait, what? Haha.

I did end up eating it. And it was delicious. It was basically fruit flavored jello, but a little thicker than jello. And the reason the people had died was because it was too thick and sticky and got stuck in their throats because they couldn’t chew very well.

But I just thought it was hilariuos. She said I shouldn’t laugh that people had died, but it was just the concept of receiving breakfast in another country and then being told that people have died from eating it. Hahaha. Ohhhh traveling the world. I love it.
