So, I’ve been meaning to put up some pictures of my time teaching in Tainan City for the 2 week english camp. So, here’s a few favorites from our school days… First, our class picture. So fun.
So, basically, there were 3 classes that the teachers rotated to teach. (There was a 4th, but they had mostly one teacher).
Here’s the junior high aged class. Such studious boys…
Group work/pair work is really common here… it works really well here.
In this class, I had the students work in pair a lot, because even the most shy students would participate that way.
Next is the oldest class. High school age. On this particular day, I was teaching them this game called ‘the crab game’ i think… They’re trying to figure out whether or not they’re too cool to participate 😛
Basically you have to link arms with another person, while sitting back to back, and then you
try to move sideways together. We had crab races… Everyone that tried it enjoyed it. (And the girls from above did decide that the activity was not too dumb to participate, and ended up having fun and even winning their race.)
So, these guys were pretty
hysterical. ‘Two peas in a pod’ as my sister would say. Get those two together, and you’ll be laughing. They were 2 of the first to try the crab game… After they had finished, I hear from behind me, ‘Hey, Teacher, Look! Sexy!’ (Not referring to me as ‘sexy’ just to clarify). So, I turn around. And this is what I see… These 2 guys strikin up their best attempt at modeling poses. Haha. So, of course, I had to take a picture. So ridiculous.
Now, onto my class. They are so cute and sweet.
I’m just gonna put up a bunch of pictures because I haven’t
really put up any (unless you’ve seen the ones on facebook)… I brought my camera one day that I knew I had a lot of group work planned.
Now here’s something I found really interesting. When I said ‘you may work on your projects in your groups,’ something got lost in translation. Apparently, ‘work on
your projects in groups means ‘Please feel
free to take off your shoes and sprawl out all over the floor’. I didn’t mind. It was just funny.
So, on the last day of school, the kids had to make me and Timmy, my TA, clothes out of poster board. So here’s me with some of the kids in my class who made my awesome shirt and purse.
It was really cute. And they did a great job. Timmy’s costume
was even better, but I wasn’t able to get a picture.
I loved my class. (I would put up more pictures, but I’m too lazy, and plus there’s more of my class on facebook.) Someone always had something crazy to say that made me laugh…
“Teacher, I’m going on strike…”
“Teacher, this meat scares me…”
“Teacher, he touched my chair…”
So, needless to say, it was weird to say goodbye when school was out, when Tainan English camp ended…
