Ohhhh India

Ohhhhh India. Where do I even begin?

In no particular Order… We’ve been here 2 weeks. Been to 6 major-ish cities. Driven through the Himalayas on a road only opened 2 or 3 months of the year. Crossed over the world’s 2nd highest mountain pass at 17,580 feet. Held on for dear life as we drove through many streams/waterfalls that flow OVER this highway. Been stuck in a 6 hour traffic jam due to an avalanche on the road to a 13,000 ft mountain pass. Played gin rummy on the side of that samr mountain with some new indian friends. Slept on trains for 3 nights in a row. Had the terrifying experience of a one-eyed auto (tuk tuk) driver. Ridden a motorbike through thousand year old palace and temple ruins. Tasted the amazing delicacy of yak cheese. Seen yaks! Experienced the most… Interesting… Manicure in a local salon. Drank absurd amounts of chai tea. Saw multitudes of monkeys. Got hissed at for trying to take one’s picture and chased by another while hiking up to the Monkey Temple. Joined a Christian church service – a cool blessing. Showered with a bucket a few too many times. Enjoyed an arranged Brahmin Hindu wedding of a friend. Taken quite a few pictures with locals who find white people exotic. Ridden some local trains and been regarded by locals as ‘brave’ for such a ‘feat’. Visited the church where St. Thomas is buried and passed by the hill where he was said to have been martyred.

I could keep going. But I’m sure you get the point that it’s been incredible. We are loving our time here and have a ton of stories to tell.

We still have more places to stop, but Tim and I are both SOOOOO ready for a steak and a cheeseburger.

I’ll write more when I have better Internet than my iPhone.
