Home Sweet Home… Almost

We are officially back in TeXas. Yahoo!

This morning we had a wonderful brunch and coffee at Java Joe’s in Albuqurque. Then we drove to Roswell and visited the alien museum and had lunch at a fun custard place.

We had just crossed the state border into Texas when we passed a cop who immediately pulled us over…

I was going 81 in a 75, so I was a little surprised…

It was a young nice guy and he said I was clocked for speeding at 83 mph… Still weird to get pulled over at that, but it’s whatev… I said politely, ‘sir, i understood that the speed limit was 75 and that i was going 81’. Never argue with a police officer. But sometimes i cant help it.

But he was nice and explained how he clocked me at 83 with his brand new radar that is definitely accurate. I showed that i accepted it as he saw it and made no more argument.

Anyway, I was as polite as possible and said ‘yes sir’ a lot, and when I handed him my license, he smiled. Weird. He then looked at my recorded previous cruise control and noted out loud that it said ’81’. He looked at me and said, ‘well I’ll go get this taken care of and be right back’ and winked very obviously at me before walking off to his police car.

I sorta laughed… Did that guy seriously just wink at me? That’s definitely never happened to me before… I hoped it meant he’d give me a warning instead of a ticket.

And voila! He just gave me a warning. Yay! But totally weird. It was actually a good thing for my students to experience the procedure of being pulled over as well as how to act in such a situation. We had a great discussion (and laugh) for a while afterwards…

Now we’re at pizza hut still about an hour away from our hotel… Not the kind of pizza I was hoping for, but you probably don’t understand what a feat it was to convince everyone to have pizza for dinner 😛

Tomorrow. Home sweet home! I can’t wait! Yay!
