A Great Day in London

I had a wonderful day in London with the bowsers… Technically a bit outside of London. Upon my arrival, I was treated to some delicious vegetables fresh from the garden. Yum! The Bowser men did well in their gardening adventure this year. After lunch and a shower, we headed out to some nature trails through the woods. “Public footpaths” as they call them. We stopped at one spot overlooking a lake and heathrow airport where we watched a few planes take off in the distance. We passed by a field of cows and sheep. I saw a dozen kinds of berries. And the kids tried to do pull ups on every over hanging branch we passed under. We even found a bunch of wild blackberries!!! Yum!

After our walk, we went blackberry picking since we had seen so many during our walk, so we could make a cobbler for dessert. They were so delicious! None of that horrible pesticide taste they have in the States.

I learned how to tell a ripe one from one that wasn’t quite ready… And it surprisingly has less relation to looks than I thought. I also learned how to avoid the stinging nettle vines that often entangle themselves in blackberry bushes. Oh, and the kids reminded me not to pick the low blackberries since the animals pee on them. (But probably also because of snakes).

It was so fun! Boston kept eating his out of his bucket and he’d say “oops! Mine’s empty again!” Haha.

When we got back, we had British style evening tea, and I got a chance to see the home grown vegetable garden. So cool! But while I was walking around near the garden, barefooted, I stepped on a nettle and had my first stinging nettle experience. It hurt more than I would have expected! But we tried a few home remedies including a tomato leaf and mint scrub and calamine lotion, and today I feel as good as new. But I feel legit that I now know and understand “nettles”.

In the evening, Stacie cooked an awesome quinoa vegetable salad mix and blackberry cobbler for dessert.

Estie let me sleep on her bottom bunk bed and I was sweetly awaken in the morning by the kids quietly peeking to see if I was awake. Then they came and sat on the bed and we had a fun morning chat about bible stories, Thomas the train, bats, Star Wars, and the cat pictures on my phone. So cute.

I a delicious homemade omelet for breakfast and some tea. So good. And I had some fantastic orange juice “with bits”. It tasted so fresh.

After breakfast, we played some candy land and bear hunt.

When they dropped me off at the airport, Estie and Boston asked if I could stay longer next time. It was cute. I promised to send them more cat pictures haha.

Aw so great to see old friends 🙂

Oh, ya, and before my flight, I was able to go into town and meet Pauline and Alex (friends from Singapore who are living in London) for lunch. It was great to see them as well!
